Both options can be useful. A generator remains the better tool for heavy, sustained electrical loads. A portable power station is often the simpler choice for low-to-medium power needs, especially where quiet operation, indoor safety and easy setup matter. The right answer depends less on the label and more on the job.

A portable power station stores electricity in a rechargeable battery. You charge it from the mains, a vehicle socket or compatible solar panels, then use its USB, 12V or mains outlets to run devices. It produces no exhaust fumes and is virtually silent apart from a cooling fan on some models.
